Stari Grad

The historical heart of the island of  Hvar , ancient Pharos  , built on the site where the deep bay passes into the fertile field plantedwith vineyards and olive groves. Surrounded by pine forests and breeze-cooled, it is placed in the middle of the island and offers many opportunities for intense , diverse , yet idyllic holidays to all those who choose to visit it.

Millenium Life of Stari Grad is full of guidelines that return you to the past of the city walls of Pharos from the  period of Greek colonists from 4th century B.C through to the Roman mosaics , the early Christian church of St.John, medieval street labyrinths until the Tvrdalj – a renaissance fortified castle with a fish pond and gardens of the famous poet,  Petar Hektorović .

Stroll along the waterfront , visit Stari Grad´s field (whose preserved cadastral division is  2500 years old , one of the few preserved  Greek land- divisions  in the world and now under UNESCO protection) and you will experience past and present of this ancient site.

During the summer months   many cultural and entartainment events , singing evenings, organized concerts, festivals of the patron St. Roko , the famous Pharos marathon- gives to  Stari Grad (Paiz) the new name  LITTLE PARIS.

Numbers of its narrow Kaleta (small streets),  squares, taverns, family restaurants will make your holiday not just beautiful , but richer for a small part of the great history of this idyllic town.
